Coin collecting is making a dramatic comeback! A whole new generation of coin colllecting and collectors is beginning to discover the pleasure (and profit) in collecting rare coins.

A coin collecting publication, Coinage Magazine, says that as many as 25 million new coin collectors and collections will be started in the next few years, largely because of the wonderful new coins and coin programs sponsored by the U.S. Mint.

numismatists

New numismatists are beginning their coin collecting and collections with the new Statehood series of Washington Quarters.

Quarters

In all, 50 new designs are being released on Washington Quarters from 1999 to 2008, one for each state in the Union.

The State Quarter program is a terrific way for kids and grandkids to learn not only about the fun of coin collecting, but also about the U.S. geography, U.S. history, and the value of coins.

Gold Dollars - Silver Dollars

Sacagawea Golden Dollars are stirring up a lot of enthusiasm, too.

Regarding Morgan silver dollars and Peace silver dollars in coin, It seems like ages ago that collectors could actually find any!

Silver Quarters And Silver Dimes

Silver quarter and silver dimes, until the early 1970s, were commonplace in circulation.

Even old Liberty Head dimes, Barber quarters and Liberty Seated type half dollars, coins, until the 1960s, would turn up now and then. Sadly, those days are long gone.

Now almost all serious coin collections and collectors are filled by attending coin auctions, coin shows, and by the advice and services of experienced coin dealers.

Coins And New Coin Collectors

This widespread, rekindled interest in coin collecting and collections promises to bring a boom for anyone presently interested in collecting or investing in rare coins.

New coin collectors are moving from small common date U.S. silver coins into collections of scarcer:

Rare and Old Silver Dollars - Coins

The value of all silver coins and coin collections is therefore likely to increase dramatically.

Coin Collections - U.S. Gold Coins

Collections of U.S. gold coins should see an even greater increase in value as the numbers of coin collectors swell. After all, how many avid coin collectors stop with silver coins? Gold coins comprise perhaps the most coveted legacy of U.S. coinage, offering many of the most beautiful designs and most valuable individual specimens.

Liberty, Saint-Gaudens, Quarter - Half Eagle, Double Eagles, Gold Coins

Liberty and Saint-Gaudens double eagles, Liberty and Indian design $2.50 quarter eagle, $5 half eagle, and $10 eagle gold coins are already very scarce.  If merely 100,000 new collectors enter the market, let alone the millions predicted, the demand for these scarce and rare gold coins would far outstrip the supply, and prices could absolutely explode!

Collections of U.S. rare coins and U.S. gold coins have yielded extraordinary profits, even before today's numismatic renaissance, more than in the past thirty years.

As regards collections of generic U.S. gold coins (common date, uncirculated Liberty,  Indian, and St. Gaudens gold coins), the same study found that the value has gone up nearly 2000% in the past three decades!

Rare Gold Coins - Silver Coins

In recent months we've also handled rare gold and silver coins from many of the most famous coin collections ever known, including the John J. Pittman collection, the T. Harrison Garrett collection, the Eliasberg collection, the legendary Bass collection, The John Story Jenks collection, and the Trompeter collection of rare proof gold coins.

Museum Quality Rare Coins, Famous Collections

Many of the rare coins we handle are museum quality, investment coin pieces of exceptional quality and documented provenance, fit to grace the very finest coin collections and investment portfolios.

John J. Pittman collected classic U.S. and world coins on a budget. A man of modest means, Mr. Pittman spent only a few hundred thousand dollars in assembling his entire collection. In 1954, he even had to mortgage his house in order to raise the cash to attend the Palace Sale of the King Farouk collection. But when his collection was sold in 1998, it yielded tens of millions of dollars for his heirs!

The Garrett collection of Gold, Silver, Copper Nickel Pattern coins was begun by T. Harrison Garrett in the 1860s. For the next three generations, until 1940, his family added to it.

Among many exceptional rare coins in this collection were all three varieties of the Brasher Doubloon, long considered the most desirable American coin by many authorities. The Garrett collection was the only collection to ever include all three varieties of the Brasher Doubloon.

The Eliasberg collection contained an example of every single coin listed in the "Red Book," the official guide to U.S. coins. He was the only collector ever to achieve this amazing feat.

Harry Bass collected U.S. gold coins by die variety.  In many instances,  his collection contained two, three, or even four examples of many rare date piece,  each one being a different die variety.

Ed Trompeter assembled one of the most extensive Proof Gold collections ever. The John Story Jenks collection, which was originally sold in 1921, still holds the record as the largest coin auction ever.

Of course, you don't need to be a coin collector of the caliber of Eliasberg or Bass to realize immense rewards from your collection. Who knows, maybe the modest collection you start building today will one day grow into a multi-million dollar estate, like John J. Pittman's.

It all starts with choosing the right coins and the right prices, and American Gold Exchange is here to help you do just that. Give us a call today.
