Rare Coin Collecting - Bullion Coins
Bullion coins
Bullion is the term for any refined precious metal that has been formed into bars, ingots, or non-currency coins.
Bullion coins, Gold, Platinum, Silver, Precious Metals
Bullion coins are minted from precious metals like gold, platinum, and silver. They differ from regular coinage in that they are not intended for circulation as money and contain no significant value beyond their metal content.Often investors prefer bullion coins to other forms of precious metals, like ingots and bars, because bullion coins do not need to be assayed when sold, and they are more easily traded, transported, and stored.
Bullion coin prices are tied directly to spot price of their precious metal.

U.S. Gold Coins, European Gold Coins - Bullion
Unlike U.S. gold coins, European gold coins, or other scarce gold and silver coins issued as currency, bullion coins offer no real collector premium, or value over their gold or silver content. Investors who simply wish to add "bulk gold" to their hard asset portfolios usually opt for modern gold bullion coins.
Gold Bullion Coins
Several governments currently produce gold bullion coins. Some examples of national gold bullion coins include: South African Krugerrands, Canadian Maple Leafs, Chinese Pandas, and Austrian Philharmonics. Britain, Singapore, and Australia also produce gold bullion coins. Each nation
sells its bullion coins for a small premium above the value of the gold in the coin.
American Gold Eagles, Gold Bullion - Coins
American Gold Eagles, produced by the U.S. mint since 1986, are perhaps the most popular way to hold gold bullion today. Available in one ounce, half ounce, quarter oz. and tenth oz. sizes, American Eagles are the only gold coins guaranteed the U.S. government. Plus, these gold coins are completely private and non-reportable.
American Gold Eagle Coins
American Gold Eagles use the durable gold standard of 91.67% fine gold, established centuries ago for circulating gold coinage. The obverse, or front, of each coin is inspired by Augustus Saint-Gaudens' original design from the $20 Double-Eagle gold coins. Minted from 1907 to 1933, the St.Gaudens double eagle is often considered the most beautiful coin ever minted. The reverse of the American Gold Eagle features a nest of American eagles.

Silver, Platinum Bullion Coins - EAGLES
Silver and platinum American Eagles bullion coins are also produced by some mints. For example, the U.S. mint has made Silver Eagles (containing one ounce of silver) each year since 1986. American Silver Eagles sell at a small premium above spot silver, generally ranging from $1.35 to $4.00 per coin (depending on quantity, dates and source). American Platinum Eagles are also struck by the U.S. mint, and contain one ounce of platinum.Common date circulated U.S. silver coins, know as "junk silver," are also bought and sold as silver bullion. U.S. dimes, quarters and half dollars dated 1964 or earlier are 90% silver and were made with 0.723 ounce of silver for each dollar in face value. (As some metal may have been worn
off from circulation, 0.715 ounce/dollar is often used to estimate the amount of silver remaining).

British Sovereigns, French Franc Gold Roosters, Swiss Francs - Coins
European gold coins are a smart alternative to gold bullion coins. British Sovereigns, French 20 franc gold Roosters and Angels, Swiss 20 franc gold, and other classic European gold coins are trading at very close to their bullion value, yet they also provide the added leverage to the market that only scarce, historic, collectible gold coins can offer.
Liberty Gold Coins, Saint Gaudens, $20 Double Eagles
Similarly, common date U.S. gold coins like Liberty $20 gold double eagles and Saint Gaudens $20 gold double eagles are currently trading at 20-year lows relative to their gold bullion value. These scarce U.S. and European gold coins often increase in value even when gold prices drop; yet when gold prices increase, they often appreciate at rates that are multiples of gold bullion.
